Elves have carried the Mark of Shadow for thousands of years. The mark's bearers left Aerenal after the conflict that wiped out the Mark of Death and established House Phiarlan in Khorvaire. These elves are expert entertainers, giving them access to all manner of places and secrets. Known to few, there has always been an elite force of spies and assassins within House Phiarlan. Only special clients-nobles, merchant lords, and the like-have access to these spies. Toward the end of the Last War, a bitter feud broke out between the major families of the house. Known as the Shadow Schism, it resulted in a split withinin Phiarlan-and the foundation of House Thuranni. House Phiarlan continues to offer entertainment and espionage in the lands west of the Mournland, while Thuranni operates in the eastern lands. As a rule, Phiarlan elves are the better spies and Thuranni agents are superior assassins. Thuranni and Phiarlan maintain a peaceful relationship, but rivalries run deep. Baron Elar de Thuranni is said to be responsible for the Shadow Schism. Ruling the house from an enclave in Regalport, he is always accompanied by a shadowy pair, rumored to be embodiments of shadow itself. The displacer beast serves as the young house's emblem. The lands of House Phiarlan, known as the Demesnes, are the foremost centers of the arts in the Five Nations, each focusing on a specific artistic tradition: the written word, movement arts, music, material arts, and the arts of illusion, puppetry, oratory, and acting. Baron Elvinor Elorrenthi leads the house from the last of those, the Demesne of Shadow, which is located in Sharn. The hydra serves as House Phiarlan's emblem.
Maison Thuranni is an Elfique Marqué par le Dragon house which was once a part of Maison Phiarlan and has become their direct rivals competing in entertainment and espionage. Maison Thuranni is the youngest of the Maisons Marquées Du Dragon and lives a double life, to the public they are artists, entertainers and beautiful courtiers however, that is far from the truth. Maison Phiarlan is still larger and stronger than Maison Thuranni, leading the way in information gathering and spying however, there is one field that Maison Thuranni surpasses their cousins, assassinations.
“Only from L'Ombres can one see clearly. Illumination waits for those who dare to step out of the light.” -Taen de Thuranni, bright phantasm of L'Ombre Network.
Marque Du Dragon

Histoire
During the early years of La Dernière Guerre Maison Thuranni's members were still a part of Maison Phiarlan and carried out many assassination contracts. The Thuranni family were mainly based in north-western Khorvaire and much of its work was performed in Karrnath. It worked closely with la Griffe d'Émeraude during these years. Maison Phiarlan was contracted to assassinate the rivals of Galifar heirs and would-be usurpers, however it was the intelligence gathering which put the house under intense pressure as these requests came from all nations and factions. Due to the sheer volume of these contracts many of the Marqué par le Dragon Elfes families found themselves working at cross-purposes and directly competing with each other. Many Perdu their neutrality and developed loyalty to particular clients and nations. In 972 AR Thuranni family assassins turned on another Maison Phiarlan family, the Famille Paelion. Few members of the Famille Paelion survived the attempted extermination and those who did went into hiding. The leader of the Maison Phiarlan, Baron Elvinor Elorrenthi de Phiarlan condemned the actions of the Thuranni family and called for their excoriation, however Elar Thuranni refused the judgement and declared his family as a new house. The debate as to whether Thuranni would become a new house was fierce and lasted for years, however Les Douzes eventually agreed in favor of Thuranni.
This is the officially documented story of L'Ombre Schism, although many have pointed out missing information such as the cause for the Famille Paelion massacre. Baron Elar has claimed to have uncovered a plot hatched by the Paelions to assassinate Héritier des Dragonss and kings, and thus attempted to exterminate them. There is a conspiracy that L'Ombre Schism was planned and that Baron Elar and Baron Elvinor agreed to split the house and use the Paelions as a scape goat. If this is true, then what could be the reason?

Business
Maison Thuranni competes with Maison Phiarlan in the entertainment, information brokering, assassination and espionage businesses, however it is only in assassinations that Thuranni manages to surpass its rival. Not even the elite can simply hire a Thurannni assassin as only Thuranni chooses its clients. It is rumoured that Maison Thuranni works with la Griffe d'Émeraude. Maison Thuranni offers its services as artists and courtiers to the public. Secret services such as Aundadu s Royal Eyes often rely on the information purchased from Maison Thuranni and Phiarlan. Maison Thuranni has more artisans than actual artists from architects to painters and sculptors, however there are still many actors, dancers and musicians within the house.
Buried deep within the secret operations is the Dragon's Path, a group dedicated to understanding the Prophétie Draconique. Leading the Dragon's Path is Viceroy Ureilya de Thuranni.
In Cap-Tempête, Thuranni runs the House of Ombre, a brothel that services the wealthy and powerful of Cap-Tempête. The Uruvai family is primarily in charge of Thurrani's operations on the continent of Xen'drik, and has been conspiring with The Queen of Death to recover Qabalrin artifacts.

Family
Marqué par le Dragon calls Thuranni one of the five prominent families of the original Maison Phiarlan. The surviving three families of L'Ombre Schism (Ellorenthi, Tialaen, and Shol) make up modern Phiarlan. Marqué par le Dragon leaves room for other “lesser” lines of Elfes with the Marque de l'Ombre. City of Cap-Tempête calls out the Uruvai as one of the six lines of Thuranni, suggesting that five lines of Elfes joined the Thurranis in their separation from Maison Phiarlan.
TH E ILLUSIONS THAT I WEAVE DAZZLE AND DECEIVE. Sometimes that deception eases your burdens, letting you forget your troubles for a moment. But I can also ease your burdens by e ndingyour life. -Lady Elara de Thuranni, Ombre dancer The Marque de l'Ombre lets an Elfee weave illusions, crafting magic to distract or delight. It also allows its bearer to sculpt Ombres, making it easy to avoid detection.
