Minotaures are sSorcièregy-furred Humanoïdes of great size. Reminiscent of a cross between a bull and a Humain, these horned fighters tend to serve as bodyguards and fighters. Most of the Minotaures of Eberron call the monster nation of Droaam home, acting as guards, pit fighters, and mercenaries for the Filles De Sora Kell. Others are drafted into the service of Maison Tharashk as mercenaries.

Histoire

Minotaures are a native race of the continents of both Khorvaire and Xen'Drik, though no one knows their origins. They tend to be individuals, and rarely travel with others of their race.

During the Dernière Guerre, in the year 987 AR, three Sorcières, known as the Filles De Sora Kell, announced the creation of a new nation Droaam. This nation, carved from the western half of Brelande, would be ruled by the monstrous races. The Daughters opened an invite for any monstrous race to find a new home in Droaam, and a great many Minotaures accepted their offer. Most Minotaures in Droaam reside in isolated wilderness areas, but individuals are frequently seen in the Grand Rocher and Muraille-Grise, delighting the crowds as pit fighters.

In the year 994 AR, Maison Tharashk began negotiations with Droaam for the use of mercenary solders in La Dernière Guerre. The Filles De Sora Kell agreed, and Maison Tharashk began recruiting monstrous races, including Minotaures, for use as mercenaries. It is not unusual for Maison Tharashk to employ Minotaures for use as enclave guards or in their pursuit hunting dragonshards.

Minotaures not aligned to either Droaam or Maison Tharashk are Commun as well. Some of these Minotaures have sought work as members of Daask or other criminal organizations. Over in the continent of Xen'drik, a handful of Minotaure warlords have erected maze-cities and forged tiny kingdoms over the centuries.

Religion

The Minotaures of northern Droaam are united in worship of the Prince Cornu, a Démon overlord. However, each Minotaure has their own representation of this demon and believes all others to be flawed. Some Minotaures of Khorvaire also worship the Le Sang Divin.

Notable Names

Apparence

Minotaures are large, muscular, furry bipeds, with the head of a bull. Their fur is long and drapes from their bodies, but their muscles are revealed in certain areas. Minotaures possess a feral, cunning instinct that is reflected in their dark, powerful eyes.

Capacités

In addition to their tremendous strength, Minotaures have a natural cunning, and are able to instinctively track their prey and never get Perdu. They use their horns as natural weapons, and will frequently charge their opponents. They do not have any type of claw attacks, and prefer to use manufactured weapons and armor to fight. They have an enhanced sense of smell, and can track their prey by scent. Some Minotaures also possess darkvision.

Behind the Scenes

In 3rd edition Dungeons & Dragons, the standard Minotaure was a size Large creature. Though size Medium Minotaures were released (especially in the Dragonlance campaign setting), Eberron sourcebooks made reference to Minotaures being size Large.

Appendix

The minotaurs believe that they are the chosen warriors of a being commonly known as the Horned Prince, and they hone their skills in battle so they may join the Prince after death. Each clan has their own private name for the Prince and their own beliefs about the conduct he expects of his followers. In most cases, the Horned Prince seems to be an analogue to the overlord Rak Tulkhesh, desiring only bloodshed. However, the Red Hooves worship He Who Walks Behind, who is much like the Mockery; they focus on the use of terror and in deceiving their enemies. The Blade Breakers worship One Horn, who rewards strength and courage—much like Dol Dorn. The Dawn Harvest was a clan whose version of the Prince—the Dawn Gorer—encouraged followers to fight with honor and to defend the weak, two traits rarely seen in Droaam. The Dawn Harvest was destroyed by Maenya’s Fist after refusing to accept Rhesh Turakbar as the warlord of their region; a few members of the clan survived and are now scattered across Droaam. Minotaurs are fierce and brave, but they generally lack patience and discipline; they are terrifying raiders, but most have trouble with large-scale tactics and operations.
