+RISING HOISTING THE HEAD BY THE FADING PLUMES OF THE ruined helmet, still tied under the chin by a cord, Haruuc raised it in one hand and his bloody sword in the other. "Your lord is dead!" he howled in the Humain language. "The battle is done! By my sword, I claim this place and name it Rhukaan Draa/, the crown city of Darguun, the land of the people!" -Don Bassingthwaite, The Doom of Kings

 +**Gobelinoid **is a creature subtype that refers to Humanoïdes who speak the Gobelin language and are primarily found on :khorvaire.
 +
 +===== Subraces =====
 +
 +There are three primary types of Gobelinoids:
 +
 +  * **:gobelours** - Also known as Guul‘dar or "strong people" in the dar language. Largest of all the Gobelinoids, Gobelours tend to be more physical and agressive than their smaller kin.
 +  * **:gobelin**- Also known as Golin'dar or "quick people" in the Dar language,The smallest and most numerous Gobelinoids for which the subtype is named due to Humain misunderstanding.
 +  * **:hobgobelin**- Al so known as Ghaal‘dar, or "mighty people" in the Dar language. HobGobelins are a race of lawful (a rarity amoungst Gobelinoids) yet aggressive Gobelinoids who are larger than Gobelins yet smaller than Gobelours, standing roughly the same height as most Humains. HobGobelins were once the rulers of the great Empire that fell several ages ago.

 +===== Notes =====
 +
 +The various subraces of :gobelinoides of the Empire were more harmonious in cooperating across the three races than those of the current age. This is attributed to the influence of the :daelkyr shattering their //eusocial bond//  which allowed cooperation among the three primary subraces (:gobelour, Gobelins, and hobGobelins

 +The Gobelinoid species-Gobelins, hobGobelins, and Gobelours-were once the dominant civilization in Khorvaire, with the Gobelinoid Empire de Dhakaan ruling the continent for thousands of years. It was crippled by a long conflict with the daelkyr and their aberrant armies; even though the daelkyr were defeated, the seeds of madness took root in the empire and tore it apart. Today there are four primary Gobelinoid cultures in Khorvaire.
 +
 +CITY Gobelins Gobelins dwell in most of the major cities of the Five Nations. When Humains first came to Khorvaire, they enslaved many Gobelins and built their cities on the foundations of Dhakaani ruins. Galifar ended the practice of slavery, and these Gobelins are now citizens of the Five Nations. Gifted Gobelins can be found in all walks of life, and Gobelins served in the armies of the Cinq Nations during La Dernière Guerre.
 +
 +TH E GHAAL'DAR The Ghaal'dar tribes arose from the remnants of the Empire Dhakaani. HobGobelins are the leaders of the Ghaal'dar, enforcing their will on their Gobelin and Gobelours peers. The history of the Ghaal'dar is filled with strife; when they weren't fighting Galifar or Zilargo, the tribes usually turned on one another. This came to an end with La Dernière Guerre. Maison Garda hired Ghaal'dar mercenaries, and this gave focus to the divided tribes. A brillant hobGobelin, Haruuc, united the Ghaal'dar, and under his leadership they seized control of what is now Darguun. The aging Lhesh Haruuc remains as the ruler of Darguun, and many fear that his death could throw the region into chaos.
 +
 +
 +THE MARGUUL The Marguul Gobelours threw off the yoke of the Ghaal'dar long ago, seizing territory in the Seawall Mountains in the south of Darguun. They are infamous raiders, and while they have brokered a truce with the Ghaal'dar, anyone venturing into the Montagnes de la Digue had best travel with a Marguul guide.
 +
 +
 +THE Héritiers de Dhakaan Though the Empire Dhakaani defeated the alien daelkyr, the war left seeds of corruption strewn throughout the empire. As Dhakaan began to fall, a number of generals and governors gathered their forces and retreated into shelters deep within the earth, determined to preserve their civilization until the Empire could finally be restored. After thousands of years, their descendants have finally emerged, competing among themselves to determine which leader deserves the imperial crown. Once this is settled, they will turn to the conquest of Darguun and Khorvaire. The Dhakaani are far fewer in number than the Ghaal'dar; they had to carefully limit their population in the underground vaults they've dwelled in for the past age. However, they have held onto the martial discipline and techniques that allowed their ancestors to dominate the continent. Their weaponsmiths are superior even to the Artificiers of Maison Bombardier, and they are experts in the working of adamantine and other exotic metals. Anyone who presumes to look down upon Gobelinoids should be surprised by the skills of the Dhakaani. The Heirs of Dhaka an are an agnostic society and don't have clerics, paladins, or druids. Their focus is on martial excellence, and their spiritual leaders are bards, who tell tales of past glory. Among the Dhakaan, Gobelinoids work together. HobGobelins are the strategists and commanders, typically having the skills of fighters, bards, or Rangers. Gobelours cultivate a focused battle rage and are typically barbarians. Gobelins are largely artisans and laborers, but exceptional Gobelins join the khesh'dar ("silent folk"), learning the skills of rogues, monks, or Rangers. The khesh'dar spread agents across the Cinq Nations, and one can never know when a city Gobelin might turn out to be an assassin.

 +Gobelinoid names tend to have vowel sounds that are spoken longer than usual for most languages. In male names, these vowel sounds are most often couched between a soft consonant and a hard consonant. In female names, the sound lies between two soft consonants. Most names have two syllables, but a few have three. Some Gobelins are given names that describe some deed or aspect of the individual. Gobelinoids of the three types use the same names and naming conventions despite tribal differences. The Dhakaani tend to use older names and they rarely incorporate words from Commun into names for individuals, but most nonGobelinoids find the distinction hard to make. Male Names: Drevduul, Gudruun, Kallaad, Krootad, Reksiit, Wuudaraj. Female Names: Belaluur, Draraaar, Kelaal, Rekseen, Shedroor, Tuneer.

 +The Gobelinoids are more than tribes of savages scratching at the edges of civilization. They carved out a nation in Khorvaire during the La Dernière Guerre and ruled an empire that spanned the continent. Cunning, fierce, and strong in number, Gobelinoids are poised to take back the empire that civil war destroyed millennia ago—if they can manage to keep civil war from tearing apart their newborn nation.  +Settlements: Gobelinoid settlements differ somewhat depending on race, tribe, and landscape. In general, Gobelinoids have built little in recent history. A tribal existence and almost constant warfare leaves little opportunity for making more than simple wooden fortifications. Instead, Gobelinoids excel at converting existing constructions for their own needs. Under the Montagnes de la Digue, for example, the Dhakaani clans adapt natural caverns, mines, and the tunnels dug by the Empire Dhakaani. In the highlands of the nation and on the slopes of the Montagnes de la Digue, the Marguul clans use caves, naturally defensible areas, and fortresses built during the La Dernière Guerre, building longhouses when such places are not available. In the lowlands, the Ghaal’dar clans cobble together villages and cities around the ruins of the Empire Dhakaani. Communities in Darguun often have members of many races. Typically, settlements are populated mainly by Gobelins, hobGobelins, or Gobelours. These are supported by Gobelin and kobold slaves, with some settlements using Humains and members of other races as slaves. Tribes are multiracial, although an individual clan might be dominated by one particular Gobelinoid race. In Darguun, tribal and clan membership is determined by merit. Someone who holds true to a tribe’s customs, remains loyal,
 +
 +and fights off or kills enough of those who oppose his membership can be inducted into a tribe. Thus, even Humains, gnomes, and kobolds can be found bearing the scars or brands that indicate tribe and clan. When settlements are dominated by a single race, viewers can often determine which race that is by looking at the existing architecture. Gobelins modify structures to lower doors and ceilings, often splitting a single story in a building into two. This makes taller races squat, kneel, and crawl in their buildings, showing Gobelin superiority. HobGobelins alter the landscape and existing buildings for strong, organized defense. Entry points into buildings and cities typically require a force to funnel into an area Belvédèreed by guards behind arrow loops. Gobelours prefer settlements and structures to be dark and convoluted, with many hiding places and dead ends. This gives them the home turf advantage and allows them to use the guerrilla tactics they prefer. Power Groups: Haruuc maintains loose control of his nation. In theory, the country has a feudal system, with Haruuc demanding fealty, tribute, and military aid from the clans of the region. In practice, Haruuc maintains control mainly over the Ghaal’dar. The Marguul obey his edicts to varying degrees, and the Dhakaani pay him lip service at best.

 +yammer with great energy, punctuating speech with hollering and screeches. Relations: City Gobelins get along well enough with every race. They sometimes have conflicts with individuals from the wilderness who are unused to Gobelins being part of polite society, but for the most part, the Gobelinoids of the major cities are tolerated simply as members of the underclass. The nation of Darguun is similarly tolerated, but the same cannot be said for its people. A great deal of bad feeling exists toward the Gobelinoids of Darguun. The wounds of the La Dernière Guerre still ache; the people of Breland and now-ruined Cyre haven’t forgotten the treachery that allowed the creation of the Gobelinoid nation. Thrane has never fully accepted Darguun, despite signing the Treaty of Fort-du-trône; many people of other nations hate the Gobelinoids for keeping their countrymen as slaves or for harboring criminals. Of course, many people can’t really tell the difference between a Darguun Gobelinoid and a city Gobelin, so as long as a Darguun Gobelinoid takes up the trappings of civilized society, he can travel in other realms relatively unmolested.
 +
 +OTHER RACES
 +
 +The whole nation has the feel of a lawless frontier. Infighting abounds, and the strong rule the weak. Most people have respect for the idea of a lawful society, but when push comes to shove, duels and vengeance punish more crimes than any system of rules and regulations. The EBERRON Campaign Setting goes into greater detail about these and other power groups in Darguun. Beliefs: Many Gobelinoids of Darguun worship the Shadow or Le Narquois, sometimes under a different name. Over the last century, due mostly to their travels during the La Dernière Guerre, Gobelinoids have learned of the other gods of the Légion Souveraine. Haruuc took up Dol Dorn as his patron and has spread that faith among his followers. Temples to Dol Dorn, Dol Arran, and Balinor can be found in the capital of Rhukaan Draal, but Darguun as a whole is ruled by worship of the Sombres Six. The Dhakaani tribe is the other exception. The clans of the caverns and hidden places are agnostic and pay homage to the legends of their great past through the songs and stories of bards. Clerics have no place among them, because worship of a deity distracts from reverence for the Empire de Dhakaan. City Gobelins worship the Légion Souveraine to some degree, but many also pay greatest respect to a member of the Sombres Six (although they take pains to hide this fact from others). Language: Gobelinoids share Commun speech patterns and vocabulary despite differences of race. Gobelours, Gobelins, and hobGobelins all speak Gobelin, and Gobelours and hobGobelins also speak Commun. Around other races, Gobelinoids often speak Gobelin, but around Gobelin slaves, hobGobelins and Gobelours often speak Commun. When speaking to one another, Gobelinoids often intermix Commun and Gobelin, using whatever terms are most applicable at the moment. Gobelin names for the creations of other races tend to be several Gobelin words strung together to describe the object, so Gobelinoids can most often be heard using a word in Commun when the Gobelin phrase is too long. For instance, even at the height of the Dhakaani Empire, Gobelinoids didn’t build ships with sails, and thus, even when a Gobelin speaks Gobelin, it might say “sailboat” in Commun rather than “little-warship-notfor-war-with-big-blanket-to-hold-wind” in Gobelin. Race can have an effect on the way a Gobelinoid speaks. Gobelours tend to speak as little as possible. Even when separated by great distance, Gobelours tend to communicate intent through pantomime punctuated by growls or grumbles rather than shouting. On the other hand, hobGobelins seem to relish raising their voices. They shout over one another, stating facts in the tone of commandments and questions like demands. Gobelin slaves speak as little as possible to avoid attracting attention, but free Gobelins and slaves left alone tend to
